Roger has been a Land SAR volunteer since 1961 and has come up through the various ranks of the organization having been involved on the National Committee when it was under the umbrella of the Federated Mountain Clubs and involved extensively at an operational level. Being primarily a tramper and mountaineer was a member and leader of the Wellington ACR team when it existed.

Now retired from permanent employment and apart from his outdoor activities he devotes his time to SAR at local and regional levels plus undertaking his SARINZ Trustee responsibilities.

He feels fortunate in being part of the new era of Search and Rescue, especially with the new professional flavour about it, but he recognises that we are still heavily reliant on volunteers and we should respect their needs.
