Lost Person Behaviour (NZ Ed.)Written by Robert Koester The purpose of this book is simple: To help searchers look in the right place to find lost subjects faster. Based upon a landmark study, this book is the definitive guide to solving the puzzle of where a lost person might be found. Nowhere else is it possible to learn about the latest subject categories, behavioural profiles, up to date statistics, suggested initial tasks, and investigative questions. Whether the subject is underground, underwater, under collapsed rubble, on land or has fallen from the sky, this book delivers what search managers need. SARINZ personnel have provided subject matter expertise and data from New Zealand's SAR operations underpin the theoretical and practical nature of the research and book. 416 pages, semi-concealed wiro-o binding, A5 format | ![]() |
Alpine Rescue Techniques (3rd edition)Written by Grant Prattley The Alpine Rescue Techniques is written for the rescue team leader and members operating in steep and vertical alpine terrain as well as sea, cliff and caves. Other people undertaking rescue and rope rigging will also gain quite a lot from the principles and techniques explained in this book. The aim is to have a resource that will cover a majority of the rescues that your team will encounter. Additionally this book aims to encourage you and your team to think about what you are currently doing. Discuss and debate the principles put forward. Try out the different techniques. What you currently do may work but there may be a better way. Incident Management has been included as it provides a corner-stone to modern search and rescue. With this over-all model of coordination rescues are likely to run well. All field personnel need an understanding of incident management in order to integrate their tasks with others in the rescue and meet the overall plan. Rescue teams need to have everything going in their favour when the call-out comes. Being well organised and having well defined decision-making will help this cause immensely. Helicopters have revolutionised rescue since their introduction. Fast access to remote locations has meant rescuers are able make a difference to patients. Avalanche search and rescue has moved forward with the understanding of past events and the time frames for the best chance at a survival. First aid looks at the specific challenges of mountain rescue and working at heights. This manual has been written by Grant Prattley (SARINZ) and published in conjunction with LandSAR (NZ) and the Mountain Safety Council. 350 pages, A5 paperback Price: $72 | ![]() |
